3. Statements by the President
The President made a statement on the dramatic humanitarian situation in Syria, particularly regarding the civilian population in eastern Ghouta, reiterated his strong condemnation of acts of barbarity ethnic cleansing and massacres of innocent people, and made a solemn appeal for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2401 on the humanitarian situation in Syria.
The President also made a statement on International Women's Day, and recalled Parliament's commitment to the fight for meaningful gender equality. Combating violence against women is also of paramount importance to Parliament. He thanked the Members Terry Reintke, Elly Schlein and Edouard Martin and staff at Parliament for drafting two petitions on this subject. The President announced that that evening the Bureau was likely to adopt a raft of measures to prevent and combat sexual harassment at Parliament.

7. Negotiations ahead of Parliament's first reading (Rule 69(c))
The President announced that he had received a request for a vote to be held from the GUE/NGL and Verts/ALE Groups concerning the decision by the ITRE Committee to enter into the interinstitutional negotiations, on the basis of the report by Françoise Grossetête (A8-0037/2018), announced in the minutes of Wednesday, 28 February 2018 (minutes of 28.2.2018, item 10).
The vote would be held on the following day, pursuant to Rule 69(c)(2).
The President announced that he had not received any requests for a vote to be held from Members or a political group or groups, reaching at least the medium threshold, concerning the other decisions to enter into interinstitutional negotiations announced in the minutes of Wednesday, 28 February 2018 (minutes of 28.2.2018, item 10).
The ITRE and IMCO Committees had therefore been able to enter into those negotiations following expiry of the deadline laid down in Rule 69c(2), on the basis of the report by Pascal Arimont (A8-0043/2018), Krišjānis Kariņš (A8-0044/2018), Krišjānis Kariņš (A8-0042/2018), Morten Helveg Petersen (A8-0040/2018) and Flavio Zanonato (A8-0039/2018).

8. Request for consultation of the European Economic and Social Committee (Rule 137(2))
The President announced that he had received a request, pursuant to Rule 137(2) of the Rules of Procedure, from the FEMM Committee to consult the European Economic and Social Committee with a view to drawing up an own-initiative report on the situation and rights of women with disabilities.
The request shall be deemed to have been approved, unless, within 24 hours from the announcement, a political group or Members reaching at least the low threshold request that it be put to the vote.
