3. Statement by the President
The President made a statement on the eruption of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala and offered Parliament's condolences to the families of the victims.
4. Announcement by the President
The President made an announcement concerning the decision by the General Court of the European Union to annul decisions taken by Parliament to impose penalties on the Member Janusz Korwin-Mikke subsequent to comments made by him on migrants and women. The President said that the matter might be referred to Parliament's legal service.
5. Approval of the minutes of the previous sitting
The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.
6. Composition of Parliament
Viviane Reding had given notice in writing of her resignation as Member of Parliament, with effect from 2 September 2018.
Pursuant to Rule 4, Parliament established the vacancy with effect from that date and informed the national authorities concerned.

The Finnish authorities had informed Parliament that Paavo Väyrynen would return to sit in the national parliament with effect from 12 June 2018.
This function being, pursuant to Article 7(2) of the Act of 20 September 1976 concerning the election of the representatives of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage, incompatible with occupying a post as a Member of the European Parliament, Parliament established the vacancy of the seat, on the basis of Rule 4(4), with effect from 12 June 2018 and informed the Member State concerned accordingly.

The Finnish authorities had given notice of the election of Mikael Pentikäinen to replace Paavo Väyrynen as Member of Parliament with effect from 12 June 2018.
Parliament duly noted his election.
Under Rule 3(2), until such time as his credentials had been verified or a ruling had been given on any dispute, and provided that he had previously made a written declaration stating that he did not hold any office incompatible with that of Member of the European Parliament, Mikael Pentikäinen would take his seat in Parliament and on its bodies and would enjoy all the rights attaching thereto.
