The President spoke about the recent terrorist attacks in Utrecht in the Netherlands and in Christchurch, New Zealand, in which many people had been killed or injured. He offered his condolences to the victims' families and stressed the need to redouble efforts to counter all forms of violence and discrimination.
He also expressed solidarity with the victims of Cyclone Idai, which struck Zimbabwe, Malawi and above all Mozambique and caused many deaths and major material damage.
Finally, the President made a statement marking the 70th anniversary of the mass deportations of inhabitants of the Baltic States to Siberia.
