1. Resumption of the session

The session suspended on Thursday 14 March 2019 was resumed.

2. Opening of the sitting

The sitting opened at 17.06.

3. Statements by the President

The President spoke about the recent terrorist attacks in Utrecht in the Netherlands and in Christchurch, New Zealand, in which many people had been killed or injured. He offered his condolences to the victims' families and stressed the need to redouble efforts to counter all forms of violence and discrimination.

He also expressed solidarity with the victims of Cyclone Idai, which struck Zimbabwe, Malawi and above all Mozambique and caused many deaths and major material damage.

Finally, the President made a statement marking the 70th anniversary of the mass deportations of inhabitants of the Baltic States to Siberia.

Parliament observed a minute's silence.

4. Approval of the minutes of the previous sitting

The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.

5. Request for the defence of immunity

Mario Borghezio had presented to Parliament a request for the defence of his parliamentary privileges and immunities in connection with legal proceedings brought against him before the public prosecutor at the Court of Imperia.

Under Rule 9(1), the request had been referred to the committee responsible, the JURI Committee

6. Announcement by the President

On a recommendation by the Advisory Committee on the Conduct of Members, the President had decided to impose a penalty on Marcus Pretzell, under Rule 166, for failure to respect the reporting requirements set out in the Code of Conduct and the Implementing Measures. The penalty took the form of a reprimand.

The Member concerned had been informed of the decision on 22 March 2019.

In accordance with Rule 167, Marcus Pretzell would be able to lodge an internal appeal with the Bureau within two weeks of notification of the penalty.
