3. Statements by the President

The President made a statement to mark the second anniversary of the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and to emphasise the tragic events that had occurred. She also highlighted the sense of European unity that the conflict had brought out, culminating in Ukraine being granted EU candidate status. She expressed Parliament’s continued support for the Ukrainian people.

The President also pointed out that in 100 days, between 6 and 9 June 2024, the European elections would be held. She emphasised how important Parliament’s awareness-raising activities were with regard to the elections and thanked Members for their commitment in completing all of Parliament’s pending legislative work.

The President paid tribute, on behalf of the House, to Erik Bergkvist MEP, who had died on 20 February 2024. On behalf of Parliament, she expressed her condolences to Mr Bergkvist’s family. The following spoke: Heléne Fritzon, on behalf of the S&D Group.

Parliament observed a minute’s silence.
