Draft Council decision setting the terms for financial support to Guinea-Bissau in the fisheries sector (8263/2000 - C5-0361/2000 - 1998/0355(CNS) )

The draft was amended as follows:

Sole article, introduction
The terms for granting financial support to Guinea-Bissau up to a maximum of EUR 6 500 000 for a maximum period of one year, for the restoration of facilities supporting fishing activities, shall be as follows:

   (b) on the basis of the presentation of a programme of activities by the Government of Guinea-Bissau, the Commission shall make available to the Government of Guinea-Bissau, through the bank accounts notified by the Ministry of Fishing, an amount corresponding to 50% of the cost of the planned activities.

   (c) The Commission will pay the balance of the funds, after acceptance of a detailed report which the Government of Guinea-Bissau shall send to the European Commission delegation, before 31 May 2001 . This report will describe in detail the implementation of these activities and the results obtained. The Commission reserves the right to ask the Ministry of Fishing for any supplementary information, and to re-examine the payments involved in the light of the effective implementation of these activities.

European Parliament legislative resolution on the draft Council decision setting the terms for financial support to Guinea-Bissau in the fisheries sector (8263/2000 - C5-0361/2000 - 1998/0355(CNS) )

(Consultation procedure: renewed consultation)

The European Parliament,

-  having regard to the Council draft (8263/2000),

-  having regard to the Commission proposal to the Council (COM(1998)777 )(1) ,

-  having regard to its position of 13 April 1999(2) ,

-  having been consulted again by the Council pursuant to Article 37 of the EC Treaty (C5-0361/2000 ),

-  having regard to Rules 67 and 71(2) of its Rules of Procedure,

-  having regard to the report of the Committee on Fisheries and the opinion of the Committee on Budgets (A5-0367/2000 ),

1.  Approves the Council draft as amended;

2.  Calls on the Council to alter its draft accordingly;

3.  Calls on the Council to notify Parliament should it intend to depart from the text approved by Parliament;

4.  Asks to be consulted again if the Council intends to amend the draft substantially;

5.  Instructs its President to forward its position to the Council and Commission.
