was duly elected European Ombudsman by the Members of the European Parliament in plenary session in Strasbourg on 20 January 2010 at 1.15.

on the 1st ballot by 340 votes

against 289 votes for Mr Pierre-Yves MONETTE

and against 19 votes for Mr Vittorio BOTTOLI
