7th Eurolat plenary session in Athens (Greece) from 27-29 March 2014

At the invitation of the Greek Presidency of the Council, the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat) held its 7th Plenary Session in Athens from 27 to 29 March 2014, co-chaired by José Ignacio Salafranca Sánchez-Neyra (EP, EPP) and Leonel Bucara (El Salvador).

The Solemn Inaugural Session of the EuroLat 7th Ordinary Plenary Session took place on 28 March in the Hellenic Parliament with the participation of high-level speakers, including the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr Vangelis Meimarakis, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, Mr Dimitrios Kourkoulas and the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ms Maria Damanaki.

Five resolutions, one urgency resolution on femicide and two modifications to article 4 of the EuroLat Rules of Procedure, as well as a declaration of support for the Andean Parliament were adopted.

Meetings of EuroLat's standing committees, the Working Group on Migration, the Women's Forum and the Group for Contact with Civil Society were held in tandem with the Assembly.

Food security, transparency and corruption, citizens' participation, combating poverty, femicide, raw materials, and migration and development were among the topics covered in the reports adopted by European and Latin American parliamentarians during the 7th EuroLat Plenary Session in Athens.
