Cohesion, Agriculture and Social Policies
Structural policies aim to foster economic, social and territorial cohesion across the European Union by supporting job creation, social inclusion, sustainable development, and improvements to EU citizens’ quality of life. EU action in regional development seeks to reduce disparities between regions and strengthen cohesion. The common agricultural policy supports farmers’ livelihoods, promotes food security and encourages sustainable agricultural practices. The common fisheries policy aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture, while safeguarding jobs and incomes in coastal communities. In transport, the EU focuses on connectivity, market integration, and the development of the Trans-European Transport Network, with an increasing emphasis on sustainable mobility. Employment and social policies work to advance equal opportunities and access to the labour market, promote fair working conditions and improve social protection and inclusion. The EU also contributes to housing policy, particularly through environmental, cohesion, and social initiatives.
