The European Parliament Office in Ireland is delighted to organise debates on the 2021 Sakharov Prize nominees in conjunction with students of international human rights law masters programmes in NUIG, Maynooth University, UL and UCC.

Since 1988, in the spirit of Andrei Sakharov the European Parliament has awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the fight for human rights and fundamental freedoms across the globe.

The award ceremony, attended by both the winner and the finalists, takes place in Strasbourg on 15 December.

In order to publicise the award and to promote debate on the individual human rights issues to which the prize relates, the European Parliament Office in Ireland organises annual debates on the nominees in partnership with various third-level institutions across the country.  This year, debates will take place in NUIG Galway (7 October), Maynooth University (18 October), University of Limerick (21 October) and UCC (1 November).
