Colm Markey confirmed as MEP

Colm Markey, who previously served as Chairperson of Louth County Council, will be replacing former Vice-President Mairead McGuinness as MEP for Ireland's Midland-North-West constituency.

Mairead McGuinness became European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union following successful parliamentary hearings and a vote in the European Parliament in October 2020.

Serving as First Vice-President of the European Parliament since 2017, Commissioner McGuinness served the Irish Constituency of Midlands-North-West since 2004.

Following the appointment of Commissioner McGuinness, Colm Markey MEP said: "I am deeply honoured at my appointment as one of Ireland’s MEPs for the Midlands-North-West constituency and am committed to working hard for my constituents and to advancing Ireland’s interests at European level."
