In the 2020 Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, the European Commission declared its intention to propose actions to boost the uptake of zero-emission vehicles in corporate fleets. According to its 2023 Work Programme, published in October 2022, the Commission initiative on greening corporate fleets was scheduled to be tabled in the third quarter of 2023.
In the Mission Letter of 17 September 2024 by Ursula von der Leyen, the Commissioner-designate for Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas is asked to put forward proposals for clean corporate fleets.
On 26 February 2025, the Commission announced in the Clean Industrial Deal to present a legislative proposal on greening corporate fleets in the course of 2025/2026.
