Protokol o změně Mezinárodní úmluvy na ochranu tuňáků v Atlantiku (A9-0089/2020 - Rosanna Conte) EN

Given the worrying status of most of the fishing stocks in the European Unions’s (EU) waters, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), the EU is a member of, is the body established to ensure the sustainable management of marine biological resources managed by it. However, it broadens its scope by explicitly including other species such as sharks and rays and thus providing ICCAT with a comprehensive legal basis as regards their protection.
What is more, its principles, objectives and strategies are in full line with the objectives of the Common Fishery Policy.
Therefore, this is a transposition of the international law in the EU law and the rapporteur understood its importance, which is why I have voted favourably.

Dohoda mezi ES a Mauritánií o partnerství v odvětví rybolovu: prodloužení protokolu, kterým se stanoví rybolovná práva a finanční příspěvek (A9-0088/2020 - Clara Aguilera) EN

One thing to be taken into account is that there is already a fisheries partnership agreement between the EU and Mauritania, which is mutually beneficial for both the union and the country. Adding to that, the Council has already adopted a mandate authorising the European Commission to negotiate the renewal of this protocol.
However, in order to avoid the fishing activities being interrupted for a long period of time due to diplomatic, bureaucratic and administrative reasons, the one year extension of the current protocol best suits the needs of the two parties.
On the other hand, sustainable fisheries protocol agreements are one of the most important pillars of the Common Fishery Policy, through which the Union plays an active role in supporting and contributing to the development of the fisheries sector in third countries. These protocols also encourage partners from the outside of the European Union to adhere to the principles of sustainable exploitation of fishing stocks.
Therefore, I casted a favourable vote for this extension.
