I voted in favour of this regulation because it sensibly postpones implementation deadlines for new chemical labelling rules, providing businesses with adequate time to comply properly without compromising safety.
Last year, the EU introduced important improvements to how hazardous chemicals must be labelled. These changes enhance consumer safety and accessibility of crucial health information.
However, the original timelines proved too ambitious for industry to implement effectively. This proposal extends transition periods for mandatory formatting requirements, advertising rules and fuel pump labelling, giving manufacturers and retailers more time to adapt without weakening protections.
This legislation maintains our commitment to improved chemical safety whilst acknowledging real-world implementation challenges. Rather than forcing rushed compliance that could lead to errors or supply disruptions, we're allowing proper adaptation time. The delay ensures they're implemented correctly and sustainably, benefiting both consumer safety and responsible business planning.

I voted against this delegated regulation because it imposes overly restrictive rules that would effectively kill low-carbon hydrogen production in Europe, undermining our competitiveness and climate goals whilst ignoring the urgent need for regulatory clarity.
Europe's hydrogen market is already lagging due to regulatory complexity. Yet this delegated act makes matters worse by creating disproportionately burdensome emission calculation methodologies that directly contradict initiatives like the Competitiveness Compass and Clean Industrial Deal aimed at reducing bureaucracy.
Low-carbon hydrogen is essential for decarbonising energy-intensive industries and achieving climate ambitions. This regulation's restrictive approach threatens investment, increases costs and handicaps European competitiveness whilst other global players forge ahead.
