Other parliamentary activities

Written explanations of vote

Members can submit a written explanation of their vote in plenary. Rule 194

Eurojust-Denmark Agreement on judicial cooperation in criminal matters (A8-0192/2019 - Claude Moraes)

18-04-2019

I voted in favour, as at the moment Denmark is a full member of Eurojust (a body established in 2002). The new Eurojust Regulation 2018/1727 will enter into force on 12 December 2019. From that moment, because of Protocol 22 to the Treaties, Denmark will be considered as a third state with respect to Eurojust. However, Denmark has expressed the wish to continue to take part in the activities of Eurojust and this implementing decision will facilitate this.

Coordination of social security systems (A8-0386/2018 - Guillaume Balas)

18-04-2019

The Regulation on the coordination of social security systems (883/2004/EC) and the implementation regulation (987/2009/EC) are currently coordinating the following social security branches: sickness benefits, maternity and equivalent paternity benefits, old-age benefits, survivor’s benefits, benefit in respect of accidents at work and occupational diseases, death grants, unemployment benefits, pre-retirement benefits, family benefits.
It covers workers, but also self-employed and other citizens like pensioners and family members (some with a link to the Residence Directive 2004/38).
There was a procedural vote from the ECR not to proceed with this file in this Plenary, but because I wished to see it dealt with, I voted against that proposal. It passed, so the file has been kicked back. A pity.

CO2 emission performance standards for new heavy-duty vehicles (A8-0354/2018 - Bas Eickhout)

18-04-2019

I voted in favour of this. The European Commission presented its last proposal from the Clean Mobility Package, setting CO2 emissions performance standards for lorries for the first time ever, but not including buses and coaches. Collectively, HDVs are responsible for a quarter of total road transport CO2 emissions, or 6% of total EU CO2 emissions. The proposal sets targets for a 15% reduction by 2025 based on 2019 levels, and at least a potential 30% reduction for 2030, subject to review in 2022. Only large lorries are covered, while vocational vehicles, buses, coaches and trailers are exempted until 2022 when the scope will be extended. The proposal includes a mechanism of super-credits to incentivise the uptake of zero and low-emission vehicles (ZLEVs).
