Reforming the EU policy on harmful tax practices (including the reform of the Code of Conduct Group) (A9-0245/2021 - Aurore Lalucq)

07-10-2021
Written explanations of vote

While, I am supportive of measures to fight harmful tax practices in line with international norms, and also open to consider ideas to strengthen those rules, it is felt that the Report blurs the line as to what is harmful or not. Not everything that is short of full harmonisation in Member States tax practices is a source of harmfulness or abuse and some of the changes being proposed do not take into account that peripheral regions and small countries needs in maintaining tax differences with larger, ones if they are to attract businesses and investments in a continental free market economy. Such considerations plus others have not being taken into sufficient account and that is why I voted against this report.

The future of EU-US relations (A9-0250/2021 - Tonino Picula)

06-10-2021
Written explanations of vote

I voted in favour of the report on the future of EU-US relations. The US remains the EU’s closest and most important strategic partner, and Europe and its Member States should work with the US for a strong new transatlantic alliance, particularly to promote policies and values dear to progressive forces. Of course, we need to be realistic in our expectations and for policies of the new administration to become clearer. It is important that both sides work together on international fora and push forward mutual interests especially with regards to climate and human rights.

Implementation report on the EU Trust Funds and the Facility for Refugees in Turkey (A9-0255/2021 - Öilan Zver, György Hölvényi, Janusz Lewandowski)

06-10-2021
Written explanations of vote

The EU external actions play a key role all over the world. Great responsibilities require strong accountability and democratic oversight. Transparency and democratic accountability of the EU trust funds must be improved and to this end I support this Report, however I would like to also stress the importance to continue supporting Libya in this period of transition, together with support in capacity building measures to the Libyan Coast Guard, which is missing.
