Use of spyware: MEPs to review the situation in Poland

The Committee of Inquiry investigating Pegasus and other spyware will meet with Polish victims of spyware and guest experts, ahead of the committee’s fact-finding visit to the country on 19-21 September.

Parliament set to declare that Hungary is no longer a democracy

Following Wednesday’s debate with Commissioner Reynders on developments in Hungary since Parliament activated Article 7 in 2018, MEPs will vote on a draft report that warns that the country can no longer be considered a full democracy.

New rules for European political parties and foundations ahead of the 2024 European elections

MEPs will discuss and vote on proposals to more effectively protect European values and democratic processes. The draft report aims to further increase the transparency and financial viability of European political parties, and ensure their non-EU members subscribe to values equivalent to those applied in the EU.

Macrofinancial aid to Ukraine

Plenary will vote - under the urgent procedure - on a proposal for a €5 billion macro-financial loan to help Ukraine cover the acute financing needs caused by Russia’s invasion. This is the second, and largest, tranche of a €9 billion EU support package, of which €1 billion has already been disbursed.

In brief

Ecological Disaster in the Oder River. MEPs will debate with Commissioner Jourová the pollution of the Oder river, which led to the death of thousands of fish and other aquatic species this summer.

Votes


Between 12.00 and 14.00, MEPs will vote, among others, on:


  • an interim assessment of the rule of law situation in Hungary;
  • a review of fundamental rights in the EU in 2020-2021;
  • the consequences of drought, fire, and other extreme weather phenomena and the EU's efforts to fight climate change;
  • the situation in the Strait of Taiwan;
  • human rights violations in the context of forced deportation of Ukrainian civilians to and forced adoption of Ukrainian children in Russia;
  • violations of human rights in Uganda and Tanzania linked to the investments in fossil fuels projects, and
  • the democratic backslide in Nicaragua, in particular the arrest of the bishop Ronaldo Álvarez.
