The Civil Liberties Committee MEPs endorsed with 52 votes in favour and 14 against the adoption of a new instrument to remove terrorist content online.

MEPs today endorsed the draft recommendation, presented by the rapporteur Patryk Jaki (ECR, PL), to go ahead with the adoption of a regulation addressing the dissemination of terrorist content online on the basis of the Council position at first reading adopted on 16 March 2021. The Council’s position faithfully reflects the agreement that was reached between the co-legislators in December 2020 and was endorsed by the Committee in January 2021.

Next steps

The outcome of inter-institutional negotiations will be presented and the draft recommendation voted during the upcoming 26-29 April plenary session. This will complete the formal legislative procedure for the adoption of the proposed regulation by the European parliament. The Regulation will apply from 12 months after its entry into force.
