On Monday Culture and Education MEPs adopted its recommendation for European Parliament to back the 2021-2027 editions of Erasmus+, Creative Europe and European Solidarity Corps.

The European Solidarity Corps programme was backed by 28 votes in favour, none against and 1 abstentions.

Erasmus+

The revamped 2021-2027 EU’s flagship programme for education, training, youth and sports will be significantly more inclusive, for example, by requiring action plans to the Commission and member states to improve participation among people who historically have had fewer opportunities.

Thanks to the MEPs, an additional 1.7 billion EUR was added during the final stages of negotiations with the Council. The new Erasmus+ will also be greener, more user-friendly and will also provide mobility for adult learners. It will include new initiatives: European Universities and Centres of Vocational Excellence and DiscoverEU.

Creative Europe

The ‘Creative Europe’ programme will be the biggest ever commitment to support the EU’s culture and audiovisual sectors, helping them recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from a 36% budget increase, MEPs managed to secure more of a focus on inclusion and gender equality, as well as special support for contemporary and live music.

European Solidarity Corps

The 2021-2027 European Solidarity Corps will be a significant upgrade in the value it provides for volunteers compared to previous iterations. The new programme features improvements to the insurance policy and health and safety guarantees for the volunteers, as well as increased requirements for hosts to ensure a meaningful learning experience for participants.
