Development: MEPs to grill the Commission on Global Health Strategy

On Wednesday, Commission officials will brief MEPs on the recently announced strategy to improve global health security and deliver better health for all.

From 11.15-12.30 on Wednesday, 25 January, MEPs from Parliament’s Development Committee will join their colleagues from the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety to debate the European Commission’s new Global Health Strategy, adopted in late 2022.

Martin Seychell, Deputy Director-General for Health and Food Safety at the Directorate-General (DG) for International Partnerships, and Perez Canado, Adviser to the Director-General on the External Dimension of Health at the Commission’s DG for Health and Food Safety, will brief MEPs on the Communication.

The Global Health Strategy was adopted by the Commission on 30 November, and has three key global health priorities: delivering better health and well-being; strengthening health systems and advancing universal health coverage; and, preventing and combating health threats, including pandemics.
