A delegation of the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee will hold meetings in Copenhagen from 15 to 17 May on boosting women’s entrepreneurship.

The delegation, led by Karen Melchior (Renew, Denmark), will meet on Monday afternoon with Ukrainian women entrepreneurs and with the Danish Entrepreneurs’ association, who are involved in a project to train 1100 Ukrainian women entrepreneurs in Denmark to help them start businesses in Ukraine. Later the same day at the Female Founder’s House, they will meet with Mia Wagner, the CEO of Nordic Female Founders and with several women CEOs and entrepreneurs.

On Tuesday morning, MEPs will exchange views with members of the Business Committee, the Gender Equality Committee and the European Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament. They will then visit Female Invest to discuss the gender investment gap, followed by a working lunch at the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

The afternoon will start with a visit to the Innovation Hub (Skylab) at the Technical University of Denmark, which aims to encourage more women to become engineers and pursue an education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). MEPs will then meet with Sofie Osmani, Mayor of the Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality, to discuss how the municipality encourages schools to inspire girls to pursue an education in STEM and how municipal services can work with start-ups and SMEs. In the evening, the delegation will visit the Marie Hald exhibition “Exposed” at Frederiksborg museum.

Finally, on Wednesday, the delegation will hear directly from the Confederation of Danish Industry and several women entrepreneurs and CEOs about their experiences and views.

Ahead of the delegation visit, Karen Melchior (Renew, Denmark), who is leading the delegation, said: “A woman entrepreneur faces additional barriers, and even how our bodies are seen by society can be a significant barrier. I especially look forward to our visit to the Female Founder’s House, which can inspire the committee to empower European women to overcome the additional obstacles for founders. Our visit to the exhibition ”Exposed” by Marie Hald will highlight the importance of our bodies.”
