Europe Day on 9 May. The EU institutions will open their ‘virtual’ doors to celebrate Europe Day on 9 May. People across the EU and beyond will be able to find out more about the European Union and what it does. At 12.30 on Monday, you can join a discussion on Facebook and LinkedIn with Parliament’s Vice-Presidents Katarina Barley and Othmar Karas on “A better future together”. The Europe Day programme for the whole week is available here.

Eurobarometer survey. Parliament will publish later this week an update of public opinion in the EU in light of the coronavirus pandemic and the Conference on the Future of Europe. Friday).


EU Social summit.
EP President Sassoli and leading MEPs from the Employment and Social Affairs Committee will be participating in the EU Social Summit in Porto, hosted by the Portuguese presidency. President Sassoli will also deliver the closing speech, together with European Council President Charles Michel, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa, after which a joint press conference will follow (Friday).


President’s diary.
President Sassoli will deliver a speech at the PES and S&D Conference on the Future of Europe, in Rome on Monday. The President will deliver the opening speech at the Committee of the Regions Plenary session on Wednesday. On Thursday, he will speak at the S&D/PES Conference at the Porto Social Summit. On Saturday, Sassoli will address the heads of state or government at the informal Meeting of the European Council.
