MEPs to discuss future of media freedom and pluralism in Europe
The impact of political and financial pressure on the media sector, as well as the possible futures will be discussed with press representatives and Commission in a CULT hearing on Tuesday.
Growing political and financial pressure and interferences during the last decade have negatively impacted the mass media sector. It has become hard for journalists to fight misinformation and fake news, as well as to maintain editorial independence. In certain cases their lives have been endangered or taken.
The goal of public hearing, held by members of Culture and Education committee on Tuesday, is to assess with prominent stakeholders the state of media freedom and pluralism in Europe, as well as to discuss ongoing transformations in the sector and the possible futures.
