Making online public services accessible to everyone

Websites would have to be designed to enable anyone to use them to submit a tax declaration, claim unemployment benefit or enrol a child at a kindergarten, under draft rules to be voted on Wednesday. Over 100 million EU citizens, including elderly and disabled people, have difficulty in accessing public websites to use online public services.

There are over 761,000 public sector websites in the EU that offer access to information and services, but only a third of them meet international web-accessibility standards.
