EU budget control: MEPs to urge member states to crack down on fraud
EU member countries must do more to claw back EU funds lost to fraud, check better how EU funds are spent and vigorously combat corruption, MEPs are set to say in a resolution to be voted on Wednesday. The text responds to European Commission accounts detailing fraud against the EU budget in 2013.
Eighty per cent of EU funds are managed and spent by member countries. However, overall responsibility for spending remains with the Commission, which should use its existing tools for protecting EU funds more effectively, say budgetary control MEPs.
Procedure: budget discharge
Debate: Tuesday 10 March
