Energy Union: MEPs to debate priorities ahead of the European Council
MEPs will give their input on the future Energy Union proposals in a debate with the Council and Commission on Wednesday at 09.00. This issue will top the agenda at a meeting of EU heads of state or government in Brussels on 19 and 20 March.
Parliament debated the proposals with Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič at a plenary meeting in Brussels on 25 February, where the European Commission tabled its European Energy Union Strategy communication.
A non-binding resolution on the strategy, now being drafted for the Industry, Research and Energy Committee by rapporteur Algirdas Saudargas (EPP, LT), is scheduled for a committee vote on 7 May 2015.
Other topics likely to be on the European Council agenda include EU relations with Russia and the situation in Ukraine and preparations for the EU Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga (Latvia). The first phase of the 2015 “European Semester” economic policy coordination exercise will also be concluded at the summit.
Procedure: Council and Commission statements
Debate: Wednesday, 11 March
