MEPs will discuss measures to be taken after the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data breach with Commissioner Jourová on Tuesday, followed by vote on a resolution on Thursday.
MEPs are expected to urge Facebook to allow EU bodies to carry out a full audit to assess data protection and security of users’ personal data, following the scandal in which the data of 87 million Facebook users was improperly obtained and misused. They are likely to recommend that the company make changes to its platform to comply with EU data protection law.
Furthermore, MEPs will discuss measures to prevent election manipulation on social platforms and action needed to update EU competition rules to reflect the digital reality.
