Member states are hampering efforts against money laundering, Parliament to warn

MEPs are concerned that member states have scuppered the Commission’s plan to add countries to the EU money-laundering blacklist.

A debate will be held on Tuesday and a resolution adopted on Thursday.

The Commission had planned to place 23 countries on the blacklist of states at high risk of facilitating money laundering.

Member states have claimed that the process for updating the list was unclear and potentially vulnerable to legal challenges. There are concerns, however, that some EU countries came under severe lobbying, particularly from the US and Saudi Arabia.

Procedure: Debate with the Council and Commission followed by a resolution

Debate: Tuesday, 12 March

Vote: Thursday, 14 March
