Stop misuse of EU funds in member states

Following reports of land grabbing and abuse of power in some member states, MEPs will ask the Commission to propose measures to better protect the EU's finances.

Recent media reports have suggested that high-level officials abuse their positions to acquire large amounts of the EU's cohesion and agricultural money, thereby undermining citizens’ trust in the European institutions.

Background

The European Parliament has already called for measures and drawn the Commission’s attention to some of these cases. In March 2019, MEPs said that in some member states bidding procedures “may have turned into semi-legal procedures, preventing fair competition and possibly allowing fraud”.
