Parliament to discuss bushfire emergency in Australia

MEPs will discuss the ongoing bushfires in Australia, along with other extreme weather events resulting from climate change, on Monday.

The devastating bushfires in Australia have cost the lives of 24 people. Millions of acres of burned land correspond to an area larger than Belgium and Denmark combined, according to media reports.

In the state of New South Wales alone, it is estimated that at least one billion animals have died in this season’s bushfires, including about 1/3 of all koalas in the state.
