MEPs to discuss future policy of European Central Bank with Christine Lagarde 

Newly-elected ECB President Christine Lagarde will address Plenary for the first time to discuss the Eurozone’s economic governance and ECB activities.

Greening the economy, financial technology and the economic state of the Eurozone in light of the recent escalation in trade tensions and the impact of Brexit are likely to be raised in Tuesday’s debate.

On Wednesday, MEPs will vote on a resolution setting out their priorities on the ECB’s role in fuelling the EU economy in green transition.

Background

The annual report on the activities of the ECB is the main scrutiny instrument for MEPs to express their views on the ECB’s policies.

Following a hearing, Christine Lagarde was approved by a majority of MEPs on 17th of September to lead the European Central Bank from 2019 to 2024.
