COVID-19: helping the aviation sector to recover

After a drastic drop in air traffic caused by the pandemic, MEPs will ask the Commission how to help the aviation sector and relaunch travel and tourism.

The COVID‑19 pandemic took a heavy toll on the aviation sector, with air traffic down by more than two thirds compared with 2019 levels. This will have consequences for years to come and is threatening the economic viability of companies, jobs and working conditions, MEPs say.

In a debate on Thursday, they will ask the Commission what measures are in the pipeline to support the EU aviation sector’s recovery and how different travel restrictions and sanitary requirements in the EU can be simplified to reassure people that they can travel stress-free.

Procedure: oral question
