MEPs to vote on Finnish and Belgian candidates for the Court of Auditors 

Parliament will vote on whether to extend the mandate of Annemie Turtelboom from Belgium and whether to back the new Finnish nomination Petri Sarvamaa.

Annemie Turtelboom, nominated by Belgium to have her mandate extended, is the current Dean of Chamber II of the European Court of Auditors and has been a member since 2018. Before that, she served as a minister in the Belgian government and was a Member of the Belgian Federal Parliament. Read her full CV here.

Petri Sarvamaa, a new nomination by Finland, is currently a Member of the European Parliament and a member of the Budgetary Control Committee since 2012. Recently, he was one of the lead MEPs steering the negotiations on the Rule of law budget conditionality regulation on behalf of Parliament. Read his full CV here.


Both candidacies were endorsed by the Budgetary Control Committee following hearings on 7 November.

The final decision will be taken by EU member states.

Background

The EU Treaty allows each member state to propose its candidate for the European Court of Auditors. Member states, after consulting Parliament, adopt the chosen nominees for a six-year term.
