Rule of law in Spain up for debate in plenary
On Wednesday, MEPs and the Commission will discuss how to safeguard the rule of law in Spain, focusing on the independence and autonomy of the chief prosecutor’s office.
The plenary debate follows a preliminary decision by Spain's Supreme Court to prosecute the government-appointed attorney-general, over allegations he leaked confidential information to the media. The leak concerned a tax fraud case involving the partner of the head of Madrid’s regional government, a leading opposition figure. Both sides are accusing each other of corruption.
Debate: Wednesday 18 June
Procedure: Commission statement, no resolution
