Parliament’s public hearings assessing candidate commissioners enter their second week, while MEPs are also set to discuss Brexit and vote on a resolution on the EU’s 2021-2027 budget.
Parliament’s public hearings of commissioners-designates continue on Monday and Tuesday. Among those coming before the parliamentary committees are the three executive vice presidents-designate and Josep Borrell, nominated for the role of EU foreign policy chief.
At Wednesday’s plenary session, MEPs debate preparations for next week’s EU summit where EU leaders are set to discuss issues such as Brexit, the climate crisis and the EU’s long-term budget. The following day, members will vote on a resolution on the budget, which will cover the period 2021-2027.
MEPs also vote on a resolution on addressing foreign electoral interference and disinformation on both the national and EU level. Earlier this year, Parliament named Russia, along with China, Iran and North Korea, as the main sources of disinformation in Europe.
The foreign affairs and development committees vote on Tuesday to select the three finalists for this year's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.
On Monday, Parliament President David Sassoli is due to meet Emmanuel Macron, while the following day he will meet Angela Merkel and Boris Johnson to discuss the EU’s long-term budget, Brexit and other issues.
