MEPs hold hearings to evaluate commissioners-designate, vote on recommendations for the Digital Services Act and present the Sakharov Prize 2020 nominees.
On Friday morning, the economic affairs committee will hold a hearing to evaluate Mairead McGuinness, proposed to become a new commissioner in charge of financial services, financial stability and the Capital Markets Union. Later that day, European Commission Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis, set to take over the trade portfolio, will answer MEPs’ questions in a hearing organised by the international trade committee.
Parliamentary committees vote on Monday on two reports on digital services in anticipation of the Commission's proposal for a Digital Services Act by the end of this year. The internal market committee will set out recommendations on transparency, consumer protection, artificial intelligence and tackling the spread of illegal content online. The legal affairs committee will focus on the need to adapt commercial and civil law rules for enterprises operating online.
On Thursday, legal affairs committee will also vote on a set of proposals on artificial intelligence, addressing ethical aspects, intellectual property rights and civil liability issue.
Members of the environment committee will discuss with Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans on Monday the Commission's 2030 Climate Plan, including what the EU emissions reduction target for 2030 should be.
Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, will appear before the economic affairs committee on Monday for a regular meeting to discuss economic and monetary developments in the euro zone.
