European Charlemagne Youth Prize: meet the 2022 winners

A Portuguese project on cross-border cooperation through music has won the 2022 European Charlemagne Youth Prize.

Every year national and European juries select a project from each EU country. The 26 national winners were invited to the award ceremony in Aachen on 24 May, where the three European winners were announced.


European winners


The first prize is €7,500, second prize €5,000 and third prize €2,500.

The first prize went to “Orquestra Sem Fronteiras” [EN: Orchest Without Borders] from Portugal, which promotes cross-border cooperation between Portugal and Spain, through the music of young talents living in both countries, with the purpose of mitigating social and cultural inequalities.


Second prize
went to the Czech “Politika (nejen) pro mladé” [EN: Politics (Not Only) for the Youth] project, which brings together young politicians from across the political spectrum to debate politics, democracy and human rights, striving for an informed and active young civil society.

Third prize
went to the German project “Ukrainian Vibes - European Public Sphere”, organised through Democracy International. The project, which ran from April to October 2021, brought people from 36 countries together for virtual discussions on democracy, development and European integration, highlighting EU-Ukraine relations. They published some of the proposals generated on the COFOE platform.

European Charlemagne Youth Prize


The prize, jointly awarded by the European Parliament and the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation, is open to initiatives by young people aged 16-30 involved in projects that promote European and international understanding. Since 2008, more than 4,650 projects have competed for the prize.
