Changes in the European Commission 2020 


Parliament held hearings to evaluate Mairead McGuinness, the new financial services commissioner, and Valdis Dombrovskis, set to take over the trade portfolio.

Following the resignation of trade commissioner Phil Hogan, Mairead McGuinness (Ireland) was proposed as the new commissioner in charge of financial services, financial stability and the Capital Markets Union, while Commission Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis (Latvia) has been assigned the trade portfolio. MEPs held hearings on 2 October to evaluate the candidates, and approved the changes at the Commission in a plenary vote on 7 October.
