European Cloud Initiative: a way to attract world leading research

Press Releases

“Sharing of open data, and developing a trusted, open environment for storing, sharing and reusing scientific data and results” are the benefits of the European Cloud Initiative, said MEPs in the industry committee.

The draft resolution voted on Thursday welcomed the European Open Science Cloud model proposed by the Commission, including the plan to extend its use to the industry and to governments. MEPs stressed that “a comprehensive cyber security strategy” should accompany the clouding initiative, and recommended that “all regions of Europe” benefit of it.

MEPs “urged the Commission to lead by example and make all the research data and its results, funded by European Programmes, such as Horizon 2020, EFSI, ESI and others to be open by default, based on the findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) principles”.

The plenary will have to vote on the draft text; the vote is scheduled for February session in Strasbourg.
