The first “security dialogue” with Commissioner Sir Julian King on information sharing in the security field will be held by the Civil Liberties Committee on Thursday from 14.00 to 15.30.

The dialogue will deal with the "Implementation and use of existing information-sharing instruments in the security field".

The Civil Liberties Committee took the initiative to set up a more structured security dialogue between the committee, the European Commission, the Council Presidency and experts from the member states after Sir Julian was appointed Commissioner for the Security Union and due to the urgent need to improve the security situation in Europe.

EU-US counter-terrorism deals

Immediately after the security dialogue, the European Commission will present progress in implementing the EU-US Terrorist Finance Tracking Programme and the EU - US Passenger Name Record system, from 15.30 to 16.30. The reports will be presented by Luigi Soreca, Director for Security at the European Commission (DG HOME).

The debate will be web-streamed and can be followed on EP LIVE.
