Security and Defence Subcommittee MEPs will debate how the Common Security and Defence Policy was implemented in 2019., at the meeting on Thursday.
Taking into account the European Union’s ambitions to be a global actor for peace, the MEPs will consider the EU’s actions and policies which contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security, supporting the rules-based international order.
They will look into the possibilities of strengthening the effectiveness of Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions and operations and development of effective CSDP capabilities, such as European defence industrial development programme (EDIDP), Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) and the future European Defence Fund (EDF).
The annual report also examines how the Union can increase its resilience and preparedness, as well as proactively counter hybrid threats or set the EU agenda for global arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament.
