The European Commission is evaluating the current EU Disability Strategy 2010-20 and consulting stakeholders to set up a new comprehensive strategy that ensures the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities by better implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It will build on the former approach, both through targeted action and by ensuring disability rights are taken into account across all EU policies, programmes and instruments.

The Committee on Petitions (PETI) plays an important protection role in the EU framework for the implementation of the CPRD, as it handles and examines citizens’ petitions, and works to find solutions through dialogue with EU institutions and member states.
