MEPs to discuss security and defence priorities with Minister Gomes Cravinho

Security and Defence Subcommittee MEPs will meet Portuguese defence minister on Thursday at 9.00, for an exchange of views on the priorities of the Portuguese presidency.

In the debate with the Minister of National Defence of Portugal, João Gomes Cravinho, MEPs will focus on the key priorities for the upcoming six months, such as reinforcing the maritime dimension of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). MEPs also want to discuss how the Portuguese presidency can work on reinforcing the strategic autonomy of the Union and on advancing the work of the EU Strategic Compass.


The Portuguese Presidency started its mandate in the beginning of January and runs until the end of June 2021.
