Frontex Scrutiny Group: addressing legal aspects of investigation with academics and advocacy groups
The EP Frontex Scrutiny Working Group (FSWG) will meet on Friday for an exchange of views with invited academics and experts from NGOs active in Greece and Hungary
The FSWG will hold an exchange of views with leading European law experts as well as representatives of civil society organisation working on the rights of refugees and asylum-seekers in Greece and Hungary:
- Professor Takis Tridimas - Professor of European Law, King’s College
- Mr Minos Mouzourakis - Legal Officer at Refugee Support Aegean
- Professor Jorrit Rijpma - Professor of European Law, Europa Institute of Leiden Law School.
- Mr Andras Lederer - Senior advocacy officer, Hungarian Helsinki Committee
When: Friday, 23 April, from 9.00 to 11.00

Background
The fourteen-member working group has been set up to assess the functioning of the European border agency, following media reports that it was allegedly involved in pushbacks of asylum-seekers in Aegean waters.
Chaired by Roberta Metsola (EPP, MT), the FSWG will carry out a fact-finding investigation in its first four months, gathering all relevant information and evidence regarding alleged violations of fundamental rights involving Frontex. Tineke Strik (Greens/EFA,NL) will draft the report with the group’s recommendations.
