New Pact on Migration and Asylum: debate with member states, EU bodies and NGOs

MEPs of the Civil Liberties Committee will assess on Thursday the latest legislative proposals aimed at reshuffling the EU’s migration and asylum policies.

Improving the procedures and reaching an agreement on the principles for a fair sharing of responsibility and solidarity among member states are some of the main purposes of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, tabled by the European Commission in September 2020,

The hearing, which will be divided into two sessions, will be the opportunity for MEPs to hear from representatives of member states, the European Commission and EU agencies as well as experts and civil society on the Commission's proposals in preparation of the upcoming positions of the Parliament on these files.


The hearing will be hosted by the EP’s rapporteurs on the New Pact : Tomas TOBÉ (EPP, SE)rapporteur for Migration and Asylum Management Regulation, Juan Fernando LÓPEZ AGUILAR (S&D, ES) rapporteur for Crisis and force majeure Regulation, Birgit SIPPEL (S&D, DE) Rapporteur for Screening Regulation and Fabienne KELLER (Re, FR) , rapporteur for the Amended Asylum Procedure Regulation.
