Press Releases

The Chair of the Committee on International Trade Bernd Lange (S&D, DE) issued the following statement after a meeting with United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai Tuesday.

“Today we had the pleasure to host the United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai for a very timely and constructive meeting with the members of the trade committee.

We discussed several topics dominating the transatlantic and multilateral trade agenda. These include the role of trade in ending the COVID-19 pandemic, the specific role of a potential TRIPS waiver and the advancement of a worker-centred trade policy. We also talked about using trade as a means to fight climate change and incentivizing a race to the top. We discussed the global excess capacity in steel and aluminium, due diligence and the modernisation and revitalisation of the World Trade Organisation. We both consider the establishment of the Trade and Technology Council an important building block of a renewed transatlantic partnership and we welcome the steps taken today to solve the dispute between Airbus and Boeing.

We both understand the importance of continuing this dialogue with a revitalised, positive and forward-looking transatlantic trade agenda in mind."
