Conference on the Future of Europe: follow the fifth Plenary on Friday-Saturday

Media are invited to the plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe taking place on 25 - 26 March in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The Conference Plenary will debate draft preliminary proposals prepared following the exchanges in Plenary Working Groups. These first drafts, grouped by themes, are based on the recommendations made by the European Citizens’ Panels, national panels, and ideas gathered through the Multilingual Digital Platform (Platform final report is available here) as well as the exchanges held during Conference Plenary and Working Group sessions. Where: European Parliament in Strasbourg, with physical and remote participation


In preparation for the Conference Plenary on Saturday, the nine thematic Working Groups of the Conference will meet on Friday from 9:00 to 11:30 and from 14:00 to 16:00.

Media opportunities


Media representatives will be able to interview Plenary Members who are willing to speak to journalists, using Parliament’s dedicated spaces and equipment if needed (booking required). Exchanges with members of the Common Secretariat as well as other technical experts, may also be possible, to be organised upon request. Press officers from EU institutions will be available to facilitate the process and liaise where necessary.


Audio-visual coverage


The Friday and Saturday debates taking place in the Conference Plenary will be broadcast live on EbS+. A news summary will be available on EbS after the session ends. The session will also be live streamed on the Conference Platform and Parliament’s Multimedia Centre. The different topics of the Plenary will be debated according to this schedule:

The Working Group meetings on Friday will be streamed on Parliament’s Multimedia Centre. All video, audio and photo coverage will be available to download.


Accreditation

Annual press passes (either inter-institutional passes or EP passes) are valid. Journalists without an access pass are kindly asked to request accreditation before 24 March at 15:00 via the journalist registration website. Passes may be collected by Thursday 24 March until 16:00 from the Weiss-Algeco reception. After this time and throughout the event, they can be collected from reception Weiss (located at the entrance number 4 of the Agora).

COVID-19 prevention measures


Journalists can attend the Conference Plenary session, provided they strictly follow the health restrictions and measures put in place by both the French authorities and the European Parliament.

As of 3 November, all people entering Parliament’s buildings, including journalists, have to present a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate. The EU Digital COVID Certificate proves that a person is either fully vaccinated, has recently recovered from COVID-19 or can show a recent negative PCR test result. Both digital and paper formats of the EU Digital COVID Certificate or of a recognised equivalent certificate will be accepted. Proof of a negative result of a PCR test carried out within the last 48 hours in Belgium, Luxembourg or France will also be accepted. Please note that wearing a medical face mask remains compulsory in the European Parliament.

Access


Media access will be facilitated through the main entrance to the Louise Weiss building and the Churchill building entrance throughout the duration of the Conference Plenary - subject to the accreditation considerations set out above. The separate press entrance will be closed.


Working areas


The following areas will be accessible for journalists:

  • Working space and access to the video feed inside the press room
  • Press gallery of the Chamber (photo agencies will also be able to enter the Chamber)
  • Media space outside the Hemicycle for video recording (booking required)

Wi-Fi will be available in all parts of the building. The login and password will be communicated on the day.


All journalists will be able to follow the live coverage from the press room screens.


Audiovisual facilities (booking required)


The following audiovisual services will be provided:

  • Live camera positions in self-service near the Chamber. Media should bring their own equipment and cabling; power and internet broadband connection will be available
  • Multimedia studio and stand up positions
