MEPs will likely quiz Frontex’s acting director Aija Kalnāja and management board chair Alexander Fritsch on the recent changes in the management of the agency, following the departure of its previous director Fabrice Leggeri.
The debate will also focus on the agency’s reactions to allegations of breaches of fundamental rights and harassment cases, as Parliament recently received OLAF’s (EU’s Anti-Fraud watchdog) investigation report.
Next steps
The European Parliament will vote again on whether to sign off Frontex’s accounts in October 2022.
Background
In May 2022 the Parliament, the EU’s budget discharge authority, postponed the discharge to Frontex, citing failure to fulfil the conditions set out in the previous discharge report, as well as the ongoing investigations by the OLAF regarding fundamental rights incidents.
