New rules for businesses to halt deforestation around the world

Plenary will debate a draft law obliging companies to ensure products sold in the EU do not come from deforested or degraded land, in an attempt to reduce Europe’s contribution to climate change and biodiversity loss. Among other changes, MEPs are set to enlarge the number of products covered and ensure that companies verify goods are produced respecting human rights and the rights of indigenous people.
