Due diligence: Invitation to a press briefing with the rapporteur
On Monday 24 April at 13.00 CEST, lead MEP Lara Wolters will brief journalists and answer questions on the upcoming report on the corporate sustainability due diligence proposal.
The draft directive aims to minimise the adverse impact that companies’ activities can have on people and the planet such as child labour, exploitation of workers, pollution and biodiversity loss. New rules require companies to identify and, where necessary, prevent, end or mitigate their negative impact and that of their value chain partners on human rights and the environment. The draft legislation also proposes common rules on liability, supervision and sanctions for non-compliance. The draft report by rapporteur Lara Wolters (S&D, NL), once adopted by the Legal Affairs Committee and the plenary, will represent Parliament’s position for the negotiations with the member states on the final text of the legislation.
The rapporteur will brief journalists ahead of the committee vote, scheduled on 25 April 2023, and will answer questions on Parliament’s position on the file and the next steps of the procedure.
WHEN: Monday 24 April, 13.00 - 14.00 CEST
WHERE: Online via Webex in English and for media representatives only.
HOW: Journalists can sign up for the on-the-record briefing by Friday, 21 April at 12.00 by emailing martina.vass@europarl.europa.eu. Please, include your name and surname, name of the media, country and an email address. All registered participants will receive practical information and a link to connect before the event.
Background
The European Commission introduced its proposal to foster sustainable corporate behaviour on 23 February 2022. The corporate sustainability due diligence directive aims to anchor human rights and environmental considerations in companies’ governance.
